Salads and sandwiches are simply scrumptious, but pizza is why I eat at Schumeth’s. Although the original restaurant is only a memory, the grandson of Mike & Dottie Schumeth gives us a taste of why it was a favorite of Darke County locals. Try Grandpa Mike’s pizza – it’s my favorite!

Take photos of Historic Downtown Greenville from the top of the courthouse steps. This is one of the largest rows of early 19th century commercial buildings still in use today and lists 85 buildings on the National Register of Historic Places.

Birt’s General Store is a reminder of days gone by. Their unique variety of stock includes such things as rakes, clocks, cereal, toys, honey, sorghum, cheese, milk, clothing, and candy. Actually, 506 different types of candy. That’s right – 506!!!
Although, they only stock 250 kinds in the summer – only?!! In season, you’ll find strawberries, cherries, apricots, peaches and apples. During one 3 ½ week period, they sold 6,500 bushels of peaches. This General Store does things in a big way!!

You’ll recognize Buffalo Jack’s Restaurant, located in nearby Covington, by the 1000 pound, life-like, bronze buffalo out front! Inside you’ll find a variety of wild game taxidermy including 2 buffalo head mounts and two buffalo full mounts. The menu offers buffalo, alligator, elk, rattlesnake, and venison. Not feeling adventurous?? I usually order All You Can Eat Walleye – the best I’ve ever had! During the summer months, you’re in for a real treat! Located in the parking lot near Bob Evan’s restaurant, you’ll find a long flat wagon loaded with corn, melons, green beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, potatoes, onions, and lots more. The produce is picked early in the morning and the wagon is usually there by 11:00 AM Monday through Saturday. You’ll be charmed by the Old Order family that runs this stand!
